About
He began his graphic design education with a merit scholarship he received from the faculty. He completed his master’s degree in photography at the Accademia Italiana in Florence. During his graduate studies, he focused on digital montage in photography. Through his exhibitions “Virtual Bodies,” “Virtual Spaces,” “Virtual Wars,” and “Virtual Landscapes,” produced between 2009 and 2015, Ali Alışır reveals the helplessness of the individual under the bombardment of images and the virtual and artificial worlds created in response to this.
With his post-2016 exhibitions “Cosmos” and “Hybrid Souls,” he draws attention to the tension experienced in the inner world of today’s human, who tries to remain balanced despite the chaos of modern life and the corrosiveness of rapidly consumed time. Aiming to emphasize the contradictions and spiritual states belonging to the human inner world through body movements, the artist scrutinizes and brings to the agenda social issues from different disciplines—such as philosophy, sociology, literature, and cinema—through works produced by making digital interventions on photography. Through the new image order he creates, he provides a warning of an alternative ‘Void.’
Ali Alışır’s works are included in the permanent collections of the Erarta Museum in St. Petersburg and the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, as well as in significant institutions such as OMM (Odunpazarı Modern Museum), ING Bank, HSBC, Allianz, Akbank, and the Istanbul Airport Protocol Department. Additionally, his works are held in the Presidential Complex of the Republic of Türkiye and numerous private local and international collections, including 94 embassies. The artist, whose works were featured in the Sotheby’s London 2011 Auction, had his first book titled “Ali Alışır 2009-2019” published. Authored by Derya Yücel, the first edition was released in 2019.
Furthermore, Ali Alışır was deemed worthy of the TFSF 2025 Award by the Photographic Arts Federation of Turkey for his contributions to the development and institutionalization of photographic art and to Turkey’s contemporary art heritage.
The artist, who opened his “Hybrid Souls” exhibition at Galerie Le Royer in Montreal in 2019 and his latest solo exhibition at the Erarta Museum in St. Petersburg in 2025, currently continues his work in Istanbul.
Ali Alışır is represented by Trimper Gallery in New York, Chic Evolution Art Gallery in Florida, Galerie Le Royer in Montreal and Toronto, Bozlu Art Project in Turkey, and AWC Gallery in Dubai.
