Elif Demir Tura
About
I graduated from Çanakkale Fine Arts High School in 2010 and completed my degree in Art Education at Marmara University in 2015. I continue my artistic practice in my studio in Istanbul.
In my works, bird’s-eye views of agricultural fields and geometric abstraction come to the forefront. Produced with a minimalist approach, these works meticulously explore the textures and tonal variations of fragmented landscapes. My practice presents a visual language in which natural formations and human-shaped orders intersect. By creating spaces that feel both familiar and distant, I invite the viewer to reflect on our relationship with the land and the silent narratives it carries.
Artist Statement
In my works, I aim to reflect the relationship between human beings and nature, the human need for belonging, and the impact of boundaries on human life. The fragmentation of nature’s holistic existence through the creation of borders has restricted human life and led to processes of alienation.
My artistic practice is grounded in a minimalist exploration of abstract interpretations of nature, geometric forms, and rural scenes. In my compositions, bird’s-eye views of agricultural landscapes and the ways in which these lands are divided into distinct parcels serve as primary sources of inspiration. By applying paint in layered surfaces, I seek to capture the textures, lines, and organic structures present within these landscapes, transforming them into abstract yet familiar forms.
By focusing on the repetitive patterns of land use and ownership, I aim to blur the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, enabling the viewer’s relationship with space to move beyond the purely visual and into a conceptual realm. Ultimately, by creating spaces that feel both familiar and distant, I invite the viewer to reflect on our relationship with the land and the silent narratives it carries.
