Touils

About

Born in Oujda, Morocco, in 1995, Touils had big dreams growing up. Through his drawings he travelled the world, far from the streets of his birthplace. A complete self-taught artist, Touils’ Neo-impressionist style was formed from early on, with his admiration for Monet and van Gogh. His childhood was challenging and difficult , missing school starting from the age of six, in order to provide some money for the family. At the age of 18, he was forced to move to France, making him more determined to turn the negative into positive. In his studio in Lille, he chooses joyful and peaceful colors over the dark tones. Using acrylic, spray and oil paint with every brushstroke, he is creating positivity and a lightness in his works. “When I was young, I received so much love, and that was taken away from me very suddenly,” says the artist. “I paint what I seek to get back: love, positive energy and light.”

“I play a lot with light, my paintings needs to be warm and welcoming, that when you see them you want to travel through them. For me, The last touch is to play with light, to give life to the work. So when the person looks at the work, they see themselves in it. I get a lot of inspiration from Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh; they are my aspirations since I was a child. Van Gogh had a similar past to mine, and he inspires me in the sense that he too travelled through his paintings. With my works I travel through the world, painting the places I wish to discover, discovering new cultures from other countries. I like to use large canvases, giving the space for my infinite energy”
